Alchemy, in art, is a precursor to Surrealism and modern chemistry. Alchemy mergers art, philosophy and science with the ultimate goal to discover the philosophers stone. This stone was believed to be able to transform base metals into precious metals. Scholars now believe the pursuit of this stone was actually a euphemism for eternal life and the most detailed book describing the search is the “Splendor Solis”. This book highlights how each art work in the Alchemy movement revealed a code that would describe an individuals research. This code could be deciphered through colors used and sumbolisms. Common colors used include Black (Nigrido), White (Albedo), Yellow (Citrinitas), Red (Rubedo), and Prismatic (Peacocks tail). 
 
Ngridio - The first step to immortality; chaos and breakdown of self
Peackocs Tail - The second step where one recieves visions of enlightenment
Abedo - The third step where one is made pure and clean by letting go of all that no longer serves
Citrinitas - self acualization and processing, the fourth step
Rubedo - the final step of immortality; a reforging of one self, collecting all the peices shattered from the journey and rebuilding. 
 
With this knowledge in mind, I decided to try my hand at Alchemical code art. I followed the "Splendor Solis'" knowledge of colors and symbolism to create this digital peice made on procreate. This peice embodies a true rebirth of self and showcases the journey we are all on; life, full of secrets to uncover, messages to explore, places to see, and beginings and endings.
